Ottawa Moving Boxes and the Environment

Boxes come from natural, renewable sources and can be remade over and over. Old corrugated containers are an excellent source of fibre for recycling. They can be compressed and baled for cost effective transport. The baled boxes are put in a hydropulper, which is a large vat of warm water for cleaning and processing. The pulp slurry is then used to make new paper and fibre products.  The high rates of post-consumer recycling reflect the efficiency of recycling mills to clean and process the incoming materials. Virtually every paper product you can buy has some content of recycled material in it.  Since boxes can be reused almost indefinitely, it is an excellent product for the environment.  You have to do your part.  Boxes should be clean, free from stains and any tape should be removed.

Buy Local

Ottawa Moving Boxes only buys cartons that are manufactured in Ontario or Quebec, preferably within a 150 mile radius of Ottawa.  We do this to minimize the environmental impact of shipping cartons long distance which increases the harm to environment.  There are cheaper sources of cardboard in the U.S. but we feel the difference in cost is not worth the environmental impact.  Before you buy cartons, please find out where they have been manufactured.

Carton Pick-up

Some box companies offer carton delivery.  Ottawa Moving Boxes is the only company to offer free carton delivery and pick-up.  When you are through with your move, call us and we will arrange to pick up your used cartons.  We will re-use what we can and recycle the rest.  We can only pick-up empty, dry, clean and collapsed cartons and newsprint.  We cannot pick-up refuse and garbage.  You are not only making the environmental choice, we take away the bother of getting rid of your used cartons. To be eligible for carton pick-up your cartons must be:

  • Clean
  • Dry
  • Collapsed
  • Free of tape or labels
